The place
On the edge
Ukingo means edge. Behind the lodge the cedar forest climbs towards the moorland and the peaks. In front, the land falls away to the Laikipia plains. You wake to colobus in the trees and go to bed with a fire in the grate, 2,180 metres up and almost exactly on the equator.

Getting here
Three and a half hours from Nairobi
Tarmac all the way to Nanyuki, then 14 km towards the mountain. The last stretch is a good murram road that any car manages in dry weather.
